Everyone needs some self-love in these quarantine times! (Especially after all the excess snacks being enjoyed at home!)
Pulled out this tea one evening, after a bit to much chocolate and a heavy (but tasty) dinner!
A mixture of alfalfa, spearmint and calendula, this tea is quite a simple mixture - but I will admit that I hadn't heard of alfalfa and calendula before this!
So I had to do a little googling!
Alfalfa is a herb that has a number of medicinal uses. It is high in a number of vitamins and minerals, which is always amazing, and is believed to lower cholesterol and increase metabolism. It has long be used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat inflammation and tests have shown it even has antioxidant effects.
Calendula is also known as English Garden Marigold and it has a gorgeous, bright yellow flower! It also has a number of uses ranging from supporting oral and skin health to promoting wound and skin ulcer healing - so quite the range of properties!
So how was the tea?
(The Important Question!)
Well I don't think my metabolism has increased and I haven't got any wounds that needed healing, but this was definitely an enjoyable tea!
I'm a big fan of super minty teas, so its a shame that the taste and aroma of the tea didn't resonate that strongly. However, this was a really enjoyable brew - so if you are after something with a milder flavor and not very minty, its definitely one I'd recommend!
The tea is described as being alkaline, and I don't know what that means for a tea, but the flavoring is definitely refreshing and a good way to settle your stomach or relax after a meal!
