Review: "Atlantis" by David Gibbons

This is the kind of book I love - history, mystery and adventure!

Gibbon's book takes you on a dive into adventure - through ancient shipwrecks, sunken nuclear submarines and long-lost citadels. He is without a doubt knowledgeable on underwater archaeology and the mystery of Atlantis is a fascinating and exciting subject.

With a mixture of archaeological discoveries and high tech battles between the archaeology team, terrorists and black-market antiquities traders the book has a great pace, and there are a few twists that keep it exciting.

Although I did enjoy reading the book, there were a few things that I wasn't overly keen on about it (hopefully this won't give too much away!)

- the discovery of Atlantis happens thanks to two archaeological discoveries that happen within days of each other. For a city to be lost for Millennia and then suddenly rediscovered through findings on two separate digs within days seemed just a little too coincidental for me

- Gibbons obviously know his stuff and the book details a range of boat/dive equipment and weaponry that are extremely advanced. Although a lot of this stuff was well described, I did find some of quite hard to follow, and therefore tricky to imagine!

Overview

If you love books about mystery and history then this book is enjoyable. It is faced past and he story is gripping, but it does have a lot of technological which did confuse me a little!
