'Flight Risk' by Dr Stephanie Green

Pulling myself into the paper protective gear, I headed to the plane. I wasn't sure what to expect was it swine flu? Bird flu? Ebola? Or some other terrible disease I needed to protect the UK from?

Overview :

I read This Has Got To Hurt back in summer last year and absolutely loved it - when I saw this, a similar style book about life of a Doctor at Heathrow I had to read it! I mean who wouldn't want to discover what goes on behind all those 'staff only' doors at one of the worlds busiest airports!? This book follows the life of Dr Green, who, after an usual foray into medicine, decides that the life of a Heathrow doctor would be an exciting (if dead-end as she was told) change in her career. Throughout the book, Dr Green shares stories from some of the most horrible, and interesting cases in her time. Alongside the repetaive xrays of incoming travellers, and the sometimes hilarious mishaps when trying to traverse around Heathrow, she shares some truly touching, and even heartwrenching stories of tragedy at 30,000 feet.

Traversing across the terminals, she faced plenty of surprises - from a schizophrenic convinced Prince Charles was waiting for her, to deaths on board and a woman travelling to Europe in a suicide pact to a nasty outbreak of food poisoning on a flight.

The so-called 'migrant crisis' is a common talking point in the news, but Dr Green shares some true insights into the plight of these people, and the difficulty immigration offers face assessing these cases every day. This is a really great read. The writing flows well, and before you can realise chapters have flown by!

Synopsis :

I had a few empty minutes to reflect on what might be waiting for me beying the plane doors: some serious infectious disease? Some great risk to the UK? There was never a way to of knowing until I stepped on board, and whatever it turned out to be, it was mine to deal with.

Overall :

Great read! Super easy to sit down with and enjoy (and discover some fascinating insights of behind the scenes at Heathrow!)
