Review: "A Place Called Perfect" by Helena Duggan

Would you want to be perfect?

Full of mystery and adventure this book is a fantastic read!

Synopsis:

Violent never wanted to move to perfect.

Who wants to live in a town where everyone has to wear glasses to stop them going blind? And who wants to be neat and today and perfectly behaved all the time?

Violet quickly discovers there's something weird going on in the town - she keeps hearing voices, her mam is acting strange and her dad has disappeared.

When she meets Boy she realizes that her dad is not the only person to have vanished...and the mysterious Watchers are guarding a perfectly creepy secret!

Overview:

Perfect - the town where everyone loves to drink the Archer's tea and everyone wears rose-tinted glasses to see....

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Duggan's tale is gripping and it takes you on an adventure through the streets of Perfect and into No-Man's land.

Violet never wanted to go to Perfect, and she soon hates everything about it - except the tea which is awesome. Everyone in the town is odd, and its not just because of the rose-tinted glasses everyone wears. It's not long before her mum starts changing into someone Violet doesn't know and her dad mysteriously vanishes on a 'business trip'. Violet quickly realises that something is wrong with the town, and with the help of Boy, and his friends, who no-one else can see, Violet battles to find her parents and solve the mysteries of Perfect.

The characters in the book are well written. Violet is quite a relatable character - she is brave and adventurous, but you can see her vulnerable side as her overactive imagination runs away with her. Perfect's bad guys - the infamous Archer brothers are menacing and their evil genius plans for the town super inventive (and super evil).

Overall, this book is well written and 'perfect' for people of all ages! Although aimed at ages 9+ I think this creepy tale is enjoyable for teens and adults alike.

And who can not LOVE the book cover! I think the design itself is enough reason to pick this up! (Even though I'm not sure I can pull off Violet's look!)
