Review: "Death Note" by Tsugumi Ohba

Imagine you had the power to kill anyone you wanted, with just the stroke of a pen ... what would you do? Would you use it? Would you make yourself a God?

Synopsis:

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he`s bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. Will Light`s noble goal succeed, or will the Death Note turn him into the very thing he fights against?

Overview:

I picked up the black editions of Death Note, which contain all 12 books.

The books follow Light Yagami, a Japanese school boy who finds a death note, dropped from the Shinigami world onto Earth.

A human with a death note is able to kill any person, as long as they know that person's name and face.

Over the following years, Light kills hundreds, or even thousands of criminals. The world begins to change, and people praise Kira - the name they give this new God -who provides justice and safety for the good people of this world.

But as he works to create this world, forces move against him. The Japanese police, the FBI, and more importabtly the mysterious L join forces to capture Kira and end his reign.

Light manages to embed himself in the investigation, and so the book follows the battle of wits between Light and L as the two battle to win, and either end Kira's reign, or allow it to flourish.

The book is 10 steps ahead all the way ahead! With clever twists and turns, and detailed plotting it will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout!

Overall:

Having watched the Japanese series (not the Netflix film - seriously don't do it) I was so excited to read this!

It was my first time reading manga and I really enjoyed it!

The story is fast-paced and interesting, although some of the plotting, twists and turns get so complicated!

If you've never read manga, or seen death note, then I definitely recommend this series! It's action packed and extremely clever, and it will keep you gripped throughout!
